Seller Spotlight: @mywalkinncloset, @wildvirgoshop, @_rae_bae, @thriftology101

We’re back with another Seller Spotlight feature! This week, we asked four sellers that are in different stages of their Poshmark journey all about themselves and their businesses. Read about their productivity tips, what it’s like to share a closet with a sister and how one seller is making her own custom clothing pieces. Let’s welcome these fabulous Poshers: @mywalkinncloset, @wildvirgoshop, @_rae_bae, and @thriftology101.

Hey friends, I’m Jessica! You can find me on Poshmark, @mywalkinncloset, and on Instagram, @itsjessicalindsay. I’m from Long Island, New York, and am a proud Posher since 2017.

Q: What’s your favorite thing about selling on Poshmark?
A: I’ve always had a desire to be an entrepreneur. Poshmark has given me the opportunity to earn an additional income and work towards full financial freedom. Though making money takes WORK, selling on Poshmark is not hard. The app is super user-friendly and there are constant updates to help our businesses run more smoothly and more efficiently. There is nothing like the Posh community!

Q: If you could provide one #PoshTip for new Poshers, what would it be?
A: As a new Posher, learning the ropes can seem overwhelming and being successful may seem out of reach. You’re not alone, we ALL started at day one. Learn as much as you can and take advantage of the Poshmark community. There are tons of resources out there to help you grow and make the best out of your business. If it’s possible for them, it’s possible for you. Lean on your fellow Poshers. We’re here to help!

Q: Tell us about your favorite sale you made on Poshmark.
A: My favorite sale hands down was a dress I sold for less than $20. Clearly, this was not my favorite because of the money that I made. It’s my favorite because of the note I received from my customer. She messaged me thanking me for accepting her offer. She was a single mom who was graduating from college. She was low on funds but wanted a ‘new’ dress for her special occasion. My heart immediately went out to her and I wished that there was something more that I could do for her. That was probably my best wrapped package to date. These are the moments I live for!

Q: If you could meet any PFF in real life who would it be?
A: So I’ve already met her at my first PoshFest but hands down, @karisrenee! I’m obsessed with her style and would love to have a girls day, sip champagne, and talk business.

Q: What’s an item you’re currently selling that you wish you could keep for yourself?
A: I’m a sucker for a cute pair of mules. I have these black and pearl Karl Lagerfeld mules that are simply adorable. If they were my size, I’d keep them for sure.

Q: Share some of your best productivity tips.
A: I juggle a full-time job, being a wife, friend, sister, and Poshmark. Productivity is crucial to helping my business grow. Here are some of the ways that have helped me stay productive and work efficiently during the day.

  • Plan Ahead: Decide in advance what you’re going to focus on for the day. This will save you energy and time.
  • Batch Work: Working on one system at a time keeps the momentum going. Listen to a podcast or a YouTube video in the background to help with the monotony.
  • Inventory System: Find an inventory system that works for you and continue to tweak it as your business needs change. You’ll thank me when it’s time to ship!
  • Stop comparing: There is always someone doing better than you but playing the comparison game only hurts yourself and your business. Take the time you’re using to compare yourself, and invest it back into your business. You are doing great. Just be consistent and keep going!

Q: If you had a $1,000 shopping spree on Poshmark, what would you buy and why?A: A shopping spree…I just got excited! Lol. I’ve had my eye on a few pairs of Madewell jeans and a Chloe bag. When I find a quality piece, I’d much rather spend my coins to support a small business than a big retail chain.

Hi babes, I’m Dana Draper and I’m from Boston, Massachusetts! My closet name is @wildvirgoshop and I’ve been on Poshmark since 2015.

Q: What’s your advice for other young aspiring resellers?

A: Some advice for other young aspiring resellers would have to be “start cheap.” I started selling random items around my house and found that I enjoyed the process of it all. After I decided that I was going to see if I could make reselling a part-time job, I decided that I did not want to risk too much by spending a lot of money upfront, just in case it wasn’t successful. I then started to strategically sell items in my closet first to see if I could make the monthly goal I set for myself with the hopes to pursue the possibility of reselling full-time. I think it is important to try everything out before going full force to make sure you love what you’re doing.

Q: When did you decide to pursue selling DIY pieces?
A: I decided to pursue selling DIY pieces on Poshmark starting in January 2019. I found myself enjoying the process of custom tie-dying every piece of item I owned and those I have thrifted over the years.

Q: Where do you find inspiration when creating your pieces?
A: Most of my inspiration comes straight off the runways and from fashion influencers on social media. I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and I’ve always been interested in trend forecasting. I follow and research what the next big trends will be for the upcoming seasons.

Q: What’s an item you’re currently selling that you’d want to keep for yourself?

A: There are so many items that I’m currently selling that I would love to keep for myself. Most of my items are a representation of my style, so I typically like to wear some of the items before selling them. If I find myself pulling that piece out of my closet often, then I end up taking down the listing and end up keeping it all for myself. I have a Vintage Cowboys Football Betty Boop T-Shirt in my closet that I am currently taking down as I write this.

Q: Who is your business role model?
A: My business role model would have to be Sami Miro. She is an impact designer who is dedicated to sustainability and owns an eco-conscious high-end clothing line.

Q: What’s your favorite TikTok trend right now?
A: I am on TikTok way too much. My favorite trend right now would have to be “pick your character.” I love when creators get really into it.

We are Jenny and Tracey (aka @_rae_bae), two sisters from the Philadelphia area who run a closet together.  We started on Poshmark in early 2019 as a way to buy and sell clothing for our 3 growing toddlers – Henry, Evan and Lucy.  Soon after, we were hooked and expanded our closet to sell women’s and men’s items as well.

Q: How do you balance sharing a Poshmark closet together?
A: We have different strengths that (mostly) complement each other. Tracey works in fashion and enjoys the hunt of sourcing inventory and taking pictures. Jenny is more into the behind the scenes work of organizing, listing and shipping. It’s difficult at times since we do not live together, but it’s a great excuse for hanging out and doing something we both love!

Q: What’s an item you’re currently selling that you wish you could keep?
A: A Topshop tie-dye denim skirt we have that just doesn’t fit either of us!

Q: What’s your favorite kids brand to sell on Poshmark?
A: Zara! Their style is always trendy and cool while still being fun and youthful for kids to enjoy wearing.

Q: What’s your number one #PoshTip?
A: Customer service. We are constantly trying to improve our communication and outreach with Poshers who visit our closet. Whether it’s sharing items to Bundles and explaining to new Poshers how to save on shipping or following up right after a purchase to thank them for choosing to shop our closet and letting them know when their items will be shipped out.

Q: Tell us about your favorite sale you made on Poshmark.
A: Our first sale, which was a bundle of Lucy’s clothes. The buyer was so excited to receive them and we were thrilled to make our first sale!

Q: What’s your favorite thing about selling on Poshmark?

A: We’ve learned so much since starting on Poshmark and the environmental benefits of buying secondhand and the damaging effects that new clothing production has on our environment. We enjoy the ability to find new homes for great clothing that might otherwise go to waste.

Q:  Any tips to other Posh Moms that you’d like to share?
A: As part-time Posh Moms, we have learned to celebrate what we’re able to accomplish, rather than stressing about what we didn’t get to. The great thing about Posh is there are lots of different ways to make sales, but you don’t have to tackle them all at once. You can be very successful on Poshmark even part-time (and some days no time)!

Hi my name is Sierra! My posh closet is @thriftology101. I live in the northwest Indiana area about 30 minutes outside of Chicago. I’ve been reselling on Poshmark for about 3 years now. And I started becoming a much more active reseller a year ago!

Q: How did you discover Poshmark?
A: I found out about Poshmark through an Instagram blogger I was following! I signed up for it to browse her closet but I soon found so many other great closets as well! I’ve always had such positive experiences with other Posh sellers and I decided to give it a try one day. I sold my first item (a Dooney and Bourke bag) and was hooked. The Poshmark community is awesome. There are so many resellers who are willing to give you great pointers and advice. It’s such a positive community. My only regret is not finding Poshmark sooner!

Q:What’s your favorite thing about selling on Poshmark?
A: The best thing about selling on Poshmark is the extra income I have coming in each week. It really depends on how good of a week it’s been but typically, it ranges between $30 to $100 a week. For me, it’s a great side income and a great way to connect with a like-minded community.

Q: How do you balance Poshmark into your daily routine?
A: I designate a time in the morning and in the evening to complete my Poshmark checklist. I spend about a solid 30 minutes to an hour depending on my schedule that day. I like to focus that time to the following:

  • Photograph inventory
  •  Edit photography
  •  List items
  •  Sharing my closet and sharing other closets that need love too!

Q: What was the first item you ever sold on Poshmark?
A: My first item I sold was a Dooney and Bourke bag I had sitting on my purse shelf for years and had not used! It went to a great home!

Q: If you could meet any PFF in real life who would it be and why?
A: Oh wow! So many amazing ladies I would love to meet! It’s so hard to name one! @poshlikeaboss has amazing tips and videos!

Q: Tell us about your favorite sale you made on Poshmark and how it made you feel
A: I feel like so many times I’ve made a sale and it feels great! But one sale I made several weeks ago I received my first ever return request. Oh man it was scary and rough but honestly this was one of my favorite experiences and the reason is this:

Poshmark was so great and professional with the buyer and myself!

I was able to explain there was an error I made in my listing and the buyer was able to return the item to me swiftly and easily. It was a huge learning experience for me in that I learned to be much more detailed and to include that information in my listing. It also taught me as a reseller to be extremely thorough when inspecting an item! It was overall a positive experience and one that I was able to walk away from with more knowledge to make my Poshmark closet that much more enjoyable and accurate for my buyers!

An Open Letter to Our Community

Dear Poshmark Community,

My heart is heavy with our nation’s tragic history of violence and racism that continues to target the Black community. So many are hurting, including many of you, and this pain cannot be ignored. I grieve for those who have lost their lives, their loved ones, their innocence, and their opportunity in life as a result of prejudice and discrimination.

We stand with the Black community. As a company, we haven’t spoken out publicly on important social issues like racism and injustice up to now, but we need to use our voice to help drive change and support the path to healing. The crisis of systemic racism in America is something that demands action and attention from all of us. As a first step, we are donating $100,000 across a number of organizations for their vital work to advance racial justice, civil rights and economic empowerment in the United States: the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Urban League. We also want to create a future with more women of color in technology and will be supporting Black Girls Code as part of this donation.

We want to help create long-term change and will continue to seek out ways to be part of the progress, as a company and community. You have our commitment that acts of racism, hate speech and discrimination of any kind are not tolerated on Poshmark and are a violation of our community guidelines. If you see or experience such acts, please contact us so we can take action.

We’re proud of the strong community we’ve built together over the years, one that leads with love and one where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Although the gravity of the injustice is immense, I believe in the power of community, the possibility that comes when we work together, and that love will always overcome hate.

Thank you for being part of the Poshmark community.

The Posh Life: Posh Friends Forever (PFF) in Canada Edition

To celebrate Poshmark Canada’s 1st Birthday, we chatted with a few sets of PFFs (Posh Friends Forever) who met this past year. Whether it was an in-person instant connection at a Poshmark event or a silly mistake when purchasing an item—these PFFs showcase the unique ways to make friendships and connections on Poshmark. Read on as they discuss ways they support each other’s businesses and encouraging tips to make a PFF of your own! We love this community!

Martha @shopstylefinity (Brampton, ON) & Ashley @ashleydtl (Toronto, ON)

How did you become PFFs?
We met during Posh Party Live in Toronto as panelists and again at a Posh n Sip. We hit it off instantly and found out we had more in common, including a shared sense of humour, and kept in touch ever since.

How have you been supporting one and other throughout your Poshmark journey?
Aside from closet shares, we support each other while co-hosting in-app Posh Parties, while we are out sourcing inventory, and proudly sharing related efforts such as Ashley’s YouTube channel. We support each other outside of Poshmark too. We are one another’s hype woman!

What are some of the ways you stay connected?
We text almost every day, have occasional Zoom/video calls and connect on social media. We’ve also thrifted together virtually and look forward to planning a real thrift outing when the time is right!

How would you describe your PFF in one sentence?
Ashley is caring, genuine and witty AF. She’s my kindred Posh spirit! Everyday we find something new in common.

Martha is ambitious, savvy, thoughtful, hilarious and resourceful.

How would you encourage others to meet a PFF?
Take advantage of Poshmark events in your area (live or virtual). Social media interaction can be helpful too. Ask questions, share tips, show support and you just may find someone you click with!

Kandyce @valtkids (Ottawa, ON) & Jenny @peacehunter18 (Saskatoon, SK)

How did you become PFFs?
We met when Jenny made a purchase from my closet. I mixed up 3 orders that day (still a green seller), and it was the best mistake ever made! We struck up a friendship over Posh that has grown with our closets!

How have you been supporting one and other throughout your Poshmark journey?
Our daily convos are everything! Sourcing, learning, venting and encouragement. We source for each other, trade pieces that aren’t working in our closets, and send customer’s each other’s way. It’s a match made in heaven!

What are some of the ways you stay connected?
We chat daily on Facebook, send each other listings we might be interested in, and chat via our Bundles.

How would you describe your PFF in one sentence?
We live through each other’s closets – she’s my boho country chic side, and I’m her leather city side.

How would you encourage others to meet a PFF?
Make an epic mistake, lol. But seriously, just reach out to someone when you get a good convo going on a purchase or sale, and see where it goes from there!

Lauren @southswell (Comox Valley, BC) & Lorel @yvrposhmama (Vancouver, BC)

How did you become PFFs?
We met in person at a Poshmark event in Vancouver in December 2019, but we connected through Instagram. I think we are very similar in a lot of ways (Lauren & Lorel, we are the same age, we both talk a lot, people pronounce our names funny), so it’s just easy to chat. We are both highly motivated (and competitive), we both have young families and we like the same wine so…

How have you been supporting one and other through your Poshmark journey?
We discuss different strategies and check in with each other often. Lorel recently bought a bundle from me so I could meet my financial goal, so sweet and thoughtful. Lauren has encouraging entrepreneurial strategies, ways to make optimum sales while still hustling and being an epic mama.

What are some of the ways you stay connected?
Mostly through Instagram. I also keep an eye on her closet in case there is anything I NEED to have. Lauren posts “Posh Deal alerts” which keep me checking on her accounts often. I am looking forward to reuniting for a sourcing trip and a visit soon!

How would you describe your PFF in one sentence?
Lorel is so positive – she really lifts up everyone around her. She is also extremely hard working.  She sets goals for herself and crushes them.

Lauren is a fierce, determined woman, who is so encouraging and wonderful to lean on for support and laughs.

How would you encourage others to meet a PFF?
I think starting a separate Instagram account for your Posh journey is the best way to meet a PFF. It will come naturally! Additionally – staying positive, helping one another out, and naturally you will find that soul PFF who just gets you, your strategies and uplifts you.

We love the support these PFFs provide each other throughout their Poshmark journeys, can’t wait to see all the more friendships formed in year two of #PoshmarkCanada
