January 2026 BOLO Guide

What to List in January

A new year brings fresh energy, and January is one of the best months to set your closet up for success. Shoppers arrive with events on the calendar, gift cards to spend, and a strong mindset around refreshing their wardrobes. Based on what we’re seeing on Poshmark, here’s what’s trending in January and how you can take advantage.

January Shopping Mindsets to Know

As you decide what to list, keep these shopper behaviors in mind:

  • Event dressing, including winter formals, school dances, charity galas, and early prom shopping
  • New Year resets focused on fitness goals, routines, and lifestyle refreshes
  • Wardrobe refresh, replacing staples after the holidays
  • Treat-yourself shopping driven by gift card redemptions and post-holiday splurges

Prom Dresses, Eveningwear, and Occasion Pieces

Formal dresses and eveningwear are some of the top-performing categories throughout the month.

Premium brands shoppers are searching for:

These brands tend to attract high-intent buyers and can be great anchor listings for your closet.

Mid-tier brands that drive quick conversions:

These labels offer more accessible price points and are great for building momentum.

Don’t forget occasion jewelry
Brands like Kendra Scott, David Yurman, and Swarovski often complement formal outfits. Think of jewelry as an easy add-on that helps complete the look.

Footwear that performs well:

Clear photos, accurate details, and competitive pricing go a long way in these categories.

Western Footwear and Denim

Brands like Ariat, Tecovas, and Kimes Ranch can see short bursts of interest mid-to-late January.

Nostalgia-Inspired Bags

Vintage and throwback styles from Betsey Johnson, Coach, and Dooney and Bourke often trend in brief windows. Strong photos and storytelling help these stand out.

Men’s Vintage and Streetwear

Quick spikes often appear for Nike shoes, Patagonia jackets and fleeces, and Carhartt jackets.

These styles are great for engagement and trend-driven moments.

  • Anchor your closet with formalwear – lead with premium dress brands and use mid-tier labels to drive conversions.
  • Lean into the New Year reset – refresh activewear listings and highlight versatile, easy-to-style pieces.
  • Use trends thoughtfully – trendy items are great for storytelling and engagement. Avoid overstocking.

Here’s to a successful start to 2026!

Welcome to Seller Updates—a new place to stay informed about what’s happening at Poshmark. We’ve heard your feedback and want to provide an easy one-stop shop to find out the latest updates as they relate to managing your closet and sales. This page will be updated regularly as new updates roll out.

What’s New

  • Bulk Sharing: Bulk Sharing returned last month and is now available to help with closet organization.
  • People / Find New Poshers: This area has been removed to create a simpler experience for new community members. As a result, the related “Follow New People” Posh Ambassador requirement will no longer be required to achieve the status.
  • Seller Cancellation Policy: Reliable order fulfillment and fast shipping help build buyer trust. We’re introducing a new policy to encourage timely order fulfillment. Sellers who cancel more than 3% of orders within a rolling 90-day period may see their accounts placed in a restricted state. This excludes buyer-requested cancellations and cancellations for bundling with another order.
  • Combined Orders: Sellers now have the option to combine multiple purchases from the same buyer made within a 24-hour window. This feature was requested by Posh Show sellers with repeat buyers in mind, but it’s available to all sellers across both Posh Shows and catalog listings.
    • Combining orders is entirely at the seller’s discretion. Sellers are not required to wait 24 hours to ship in order to accommodate potential combined orders. We continue to encourage fast shipping, and shipping labels are sent immediately after each purchase.
    • Once an order has been shipped, it is no longer eligible to be combined. How and whether you use this feature or market it to your buyers is up to you.**Updated 1/15/2026.
  • Streamlined In-App Notifications: We’ve heard your feedback that too many in-app notifications can feel overwhelming. We’re decluttering the News tab so important, actionable updates are easier to find. Share and Follow updates will move to their own sections, keeping the All tab focused on what matters most for managing your closet.
  • Bulk Upload Improvements: Smart Sell is now available in the Bulk Upload tool, making it easier for you to automate selling actions across listings. With this update, .csv files must be used as they reduce errors.
  • Hot Deals Label: You may have noticed a new “Hot Deals” label appearing on select categories and price points. After seeing strong early results for both sellers and buyers, we’ve expanded this feature to all users.
  • Order Shipping Supplies in App: We want to make ordering shipping supplies as easy as possible. Sellers can now order Ground Advantage packaging directly in the app. This feature will gradually roll out to all sellers this month. Keep an eye out for an email when you receive access.*

What We’re Testing

We’re continuously experimenting to improve both the seller and buyer experience on Poshmark. We’re excited to share early visibility into some of our feature tests. These may roll out gradually, be available to a limited group, evolve over time, or not launch based on what we learn from community feedback.

  • Search Photo Layout Updates: To make it easier for sellers to take photos and create listings, we’ll be testing portrait (tall, vertical) images in search results. If a broader change to photo orientation is planned, additional details and lead time will be shared.
  • Shipping Reminders: Sellers have asked for easier ways to manage their sales. In response, we will be testing new shipping reminders, including SMS* (if you opt in) and closet banners, to help sellers stay on track and fulfill orders more quickly.
  • Addressing Inactive Listings: We’ve heard buyers’ frustration when they make an offer and receive no response, or purchase an item that is never shipped. To improve the buyer experience, we’ll be testing ways to address inactive listings on the platform while benefiting sellers who keep their listings active and up to date.
  • Closet Personalization: We’re testing a more personalized closet browsing experience to help buyers discover relevant listings more easily. With this test, the order of listings may vary based on what a shopper is looking for. All available listings will remain visible.

*These updates are currently available to U.S. sellers.

2025 Holiday Listing Guide

Listing, engaging, and optimizing your closet helps you connect with buyers and drive sales. During the holiday season, shoppers are searching for gifts and looking to score deals.

This playbook will help you think like a merchandiser: what to list, when to list, and how to “wrap it in a bow” (adding details & using the right key terms) so the right buyer finds you at the right time.

We’ll break this down into 2 major sections:

  • Holiday Timing: when to list what during the season
  • Fine-Tuning for the Holidays: how to talk about your items so they are searched & discovered beyond just Poshmark

Use this as a guide to schedule your listing efforts, prep your closet, and stay ahead.

  1. Schedule ahead: Block time in your calendar to list new inventory during the early periods so you’re ahead of competition.
  2. Refresh older listings: Don’t just add new items. Update photos/descriptions of strong performers from earlier in the year and re-position them for holiday.
  3. Shipping & readiness matter: During the holidays, shipping speed matters. Gather all your shipping supplies (polymailers, boxes, shipping labels, thank-you cards) ahead of time.

Use this guide to help create an appealing title, craft a strong description, and include what trends you should lean into for the holidays.

Here are some themes and keywords you can incorporate into your titles or descriptions to match holiday-shopping mindsets. These can also be good for Posh Show titles:

  • “Gift Ready,” “Perfect Holiday Gift,” “Stocking Stuffer,” “Gift Under $XX” “Gifts for Her”
  • “Holiday Party,” “New Year’s Eve,” Festive Season,” “Celebration Wear”
  • “Winter Wardrobe,” “Cold-Weather Layer,” “Cozy Chic,” “Holiday Cozy”
  • “Limited Edition,” “Holiday Drop,” “Special Offering,” “Exclusive”
  • “Ships Fast,” “Ready to Send,” “Perfect for Gifting”
  • “Bundle Deal,” “Gift Bundle,” “Set Of,” “Match Set”

When setting up your listing (title + description), think about the occasion and the style. For example:

  • If you’re listing a velvet blazer: mention “holiday party blazer,” “velvet dinner jacket,” “evening wear,” “gift for him/her.”
  • If you’re listing a cozy knit set: mention “holiday cozy set,” “winter lounge,” “gift set,” “matching top + bottom,” “snow-day style.”
  • If you’re listing accessories or giftable items: mention “perfect gift,” “under $XX,” “holiday stocking stuffer,” “gift ready.”
  • Keep the title clear but include one or two of the holiday-keywords above (e.g. “Velvet Emerald Blazer Holiday Party Ready”). Include the brand if you can.
  • In the first line of description, add some tips like “ideal for gift-giving,” or “perfect for holiday events.”
  • If there are bundle options or multi-item sets, highlight: “Bundle two items & save” or “Gift set: matched top + skirt.”

Here’s how you might execute:

  • Source listings based on Holiday Themes.
  • Need a little bit of help? Check out our gift guide!
  • Review your current inventory and identify items that can be re-positioned for gifting or seasonal events such as holiday parties.
  • Refresh listings: update photos, descriptions, and add holiday keywords.
  • Create a listing schedule that works for you: aim for x new items/week leading up to late November.
  • Discount items that are “going out of trend” to make space for your new inventory.
  • List gift-friendly items, bundled offers, and partywear.
  • Use the keywords and themes above.
  • Host Holiday themed Posh Shows. Use terms like “holiday ready” and “gift deals” in the title to draw in shoppers & viewership. Think Black Friday deals/ Second Sunday/Cyber Monday
  • Track what types of items gain traction. If gift bundles perform, list more.
  • Use Offer to Likers, Closet Clear Out, or special promos (if available) to drive additional traffic.
  • Engage your community through social media by sharing behind-the-scenes content (wrapping, shipping prep). On Poshmark, respond quickly and set fast-shipping expectations.
  • Emphasize “ready to ship” or “last chance for delivery” where applicable.
  • Start listing items for New Year’s Eve and new year, new me wardrobes.
  • After the holiday gifting season, evaluate what succeeded and plan your inventory refresh for Jan/Feb.

FAQs

Does Sharing and Following still matter?

Yes, but their roles are different.

  • Sharing counts as activity and refreshes your listings in the Just Shared sort in Search.
  • Sharing others’ listings is still a way to support the community, but it no longer impacts listing visibility in the Feed.
  • Following helps you stay connected with the community, but it doesn’t impact how shoppers discover your listings.

How is Average Ship Time calculated?

Average Ship Time measures how quickly you ship orders once they’re placed. It’s calculated by taking the average time from when the sale is made to when the mail carrier scans the package into their systems.

Lower shipping starting September 12th 🚚

9/9/25 Update

Important dates to know:

  • Starting September 12th: USPS may refuse Ground Advantage shipments with Priority Mail packaging at the Post Office counter or return it to sender.
  • Starting October 12th: USPS will charge a $5 fee for using Priority Mail packaging. This fee will be deducted from your redeemable balance.

We want to reassure you that:

  • USPS is stocked with Ground Advantage packaging.
  • We are actively working with USPS to improve the phone experience after reports of long wait times and confusion.

9/8/25 Update

For the first time in over a decade, we’re lowering the cost of shipping! Starting September 12, Posh Post drops from $8.27 to just $6.49—our lowest rate since 2017.

Why we’re doing this

USPS recently announced industry-wide rate increases on Priority Mail shipping. With input from our sellers and a shared goal of keeping shipping accessible, we partnered with USPS to find a better path forward. The result is a new, lower shipping rate that benefits both buyers and sellers.

What’s staying the same

You’ll still get all the perks of Posh Post, our exclusive shipping system:

  • Flat-rate shipping on every order—no guessing, no hidden fees
  • One label for anything up to 5 pounds
  • The ability to use your own packaging
  • Prepaid label and QR code options

What’s changing

Orders will ship via USPS Ground Advantage, with delivery in 2 to 5 business days.

This means that starting September 12, USPS Priority Mail packaging can no longer be used to ship Poshmark orders. Starting October 12th, USPS will charge a $5 fee for using Priority Mail packaging. This fee will be deducted from your redeemable balance.

If you already use your own packaging, there’s nothing you need to change. If you’ve been using Priority Mail materials, simply switch to non-Priority Mail packaging. To make this transition easier, Poshmark sellers will have exclusive access to free USPS Ground Advantage boxes.

Due to the contract process, we unfortunately weren’t cleared to announce this update until today. While the timeline is shorter than usual, we hope you share in our excitement about this price reduction.

This is one of our biggest updates yet, and a meaningful shift toward bringing more shoppers to your closets, leading to stronger sales. Together, we’re not just selling fashion, we’re building its future.
