PoshPost: How Poshers Are Embracing Change

Poshmark always values feedback from the community so we wanted to take this opportunity to hear from a few members in regards to how they’ve handled the recent news surrounding Poshmark’s latest changes, including PoshPost. Read on to learn more!

With the new shipping and commission updates, I’m making more sales now that the shipping rates are lower. I find that even a dollar or two can really make or break a deal when customers are looking to purchase. I don’t feel like I have to increase my prices to maintain my earnings margin because I’m offering higher quality items that are above the $15 mark, so I feel unaffected by the commission changes. Additionally with the shipping rate lowered I feel like Poshmark now allows me to make more sales and not feel pressured to discounting more for customers unhappy with total price of an item plus shipping.

Some things I’ve been adjusting to include using the Not For Sale (NFS) status to show the items in a “preview to come” listing to increase pre-promotion of new items to my followers. I also use it as a hold on items that are bundled until they have been accepted.

A couple of tips that I would offer to Poshers still adjusting with the changes are: use the NFS tags in creative ways for reserves, welcome posts, chatting listings, or party announcements. Also, share the news with your followers and potential customers that shipping rates are lower – it may lead them to making more purchases.

With the new commission and shipping updates, my customers have been buying more because they are spending less on shipping. In addition, I have been using a five items for $15 promotion and have had more customers spend more than $15 on their bundles. They feel like they are getting more for less and I am making the same profit as the 20% commission (if not more!).

To encourage sales and bundles, I have created my own personalized thank you business cards. The cards state thank you for your purchase please leave feedback and 10% off will be awarded off your next purchase. Makes it simple and fast!

One recommendation that I have for any Poshers still adjusting is to be proactive not reactive about change. Change is a very difficult thing to deal with, and any comments that you make about the changes, Poshmark, or other individuals is a reflection of your closet. You are a brand ambassador for yourself and the Poshmark community. Keep it positive.

I believe the new shipping and commission updateshave improved morale of the general community, and also increased my sales. I have not actually increased my prices to maintain earnings because careful thought always goes into my pricing. I allow myself a sufficient margin to anticipate trends whether it is changes made by Poshmark or those due to current demand and competition internally and externally (outside of Poshmark). I am now seeing less bundles and more single purchases of higher cost, and I believe this is because the buyer no longer has to “jump through hoops” to get a great deal now.

One noteworthy change to my Poshing is I have been using the NFS status for inventory management. When I need to know how many available listings I have this gives me a true number since it excludes notes with listings of $0 listing price. It’s a quick tool to be able to know what I’ve sold weekly. Now I have much easier visual inventory control. Defining my unproductive inventory is also quicker now. By using the NFS tool in conjunction with the Filters, I am now able to define the 20% that’s selling and 80% that’s not. I am also able to track trends of each item posted.

My advice for Poshers still adjusting to the updates is first and foremost to have fun! Poshmark is an evolving platform that is consistently listening to its users in order to improve. In this day and age we don’t have the luxury to think rigid. For example when Apple has an upgrade we all know it’s going to be for something better. Poshers that are still adjusting should inherit that same trust.

1. What 3 closet staples are must-haves for a city gal?
Chic flats, a nice leather bag and an assortment of jackets and coats!
2. How can you wear leather in a flirty and feminine way?
I like wearing leather accents and featuring only one leather piece in an outfit. Keep it simple and dress it up with some pearls or a pop of color.

3. Leather leggings or moto jacket and why?
Moto jacket for sure – you can wear it all year long (leather leggings don’t get along with summer too well)!Check out Tracy’s wish list leather items on Poshmark:

1. How would you describe your personal style?
I’ve had this question come up MULTIPLE times, and I never quite know how to answer it. The only word that seems to describe it is eclectic – “deriving ideas, style or taste from a broad and diverse range of sources.” I’m attracted to SO many different stylesm and I try to incorporate them all into my looks and making them my own. I love pulling from different ideas, adding unexpected touches, and I’m never afraid to try new trends. So I think the only way to describe my personal style is eclectic and ever-changing!

2. If you could shop any celebrities closet who would it be and why?
That’s SUCH a hard question, but it would have to be Olivia Palermo! Everything (and I mean everything) she wears is just perfect! Also, I’ve been obsessing over everything Jessica Alba wears lately! Her street style is just awesome!

3. What is the a creative way to wear leather without resorting to a moto jacket?
I’m ALL about leather boots! Whether they’re ankle booties, knee highs, over the knee, flat, heeled, whatever they are – boots are instant outfit makers!Check out Jackie’s wish list leather items on Poshmark:

How do you stay true to your personal style while dressing for the winter?
The cold can definitely put a damper on my style sometimes. I love to wear dresses and skirts, but when it’s 4 degrees outside, I have to make practical style decisions. No matter what time of year it is, I always like to maintain a mixture of super feminine pieces with a little rock n’ roll edge. I love the mixture of hard and soft when it comes to pairing prints and pieces, and I opt to wear a lot of wedges, printed/colored denim, and of course, sweaters. Color is key in the winter – the weather can be awfully dreary at times.
What winter accessory can’t you live without and why?
I need to have leather – a coat, pants, shoes. My favorite purchase this year has been this leather and wool jacket I bought at Forever 21. It has a motorcycle element to it, but the wool makes it a true winter coat.
image
What’s the most important thing you look for when shopping for a coat?
When shopping for the perfect winter outerwear, I want a coat that not only keeps me warm, but to stand alone outside of what I’m wearing underneath. I know I’ve found the right one when I try it on and feel like I can wear it with a pair of jeans… and feel dressed up. I’m drawn to coats that have a formal wear aspect to them, especially the hardware (like double breasted coats).
Who is your cold weather style inspiration?
Without a doubt, Alexa Chung is my favorite fashion muse – any season. She has a way of conveying her personality with fashion that is just… inspiring. Besides, she’s British… Can you blame me for admiring a well-dressed Brit?

What is your take on wearing heels in the winter? Yay or nay – and also, why?

Heels during the winter are a total YAY! I think heels are perfect for any season to be truly honest. It can dress up any outfit and put a feminine touch to your look.
Does your personal style change from season to season? If so, how?
I stay pretty consistent with my personal style. I love the cold weather months more than the sunnier seasons because it allows me to layer, layer, layer!
image
What winter accessory can’t you live without?
I can’t live without my scarfs, hats and gloves. Being that I am from NYC, it gets pretty cold – sometimes people don’t get to see what I’m actually wearing so I dress up my coat with fun hats, scarfs and funky gloves!
What are your top three blizzard-proof beauty products you can’t live without?
It’s so hard to pick only three, but I can’t live without:
– L’oreal Voluminous Mascara (Even when I’m not wearing makeup, I always have mascara on)
– Boscia Daily Hydration Moisturizer (You should ALWAYS moisturize your skin, especially during the winter)
– Tinted Lipgloss (To add color to my lips)

1. What are your top wardrobe staples for San Francisco living?

The weather in San Francisco is unpredictable to say the least. My wardrobe choices must include a chance of a 30 degree temperature variance. The key to dressing for unpredictable weather is layering. From your foundation pieces to your outerwear, SF style is all about layering it on.

For me, this means a cami and knee-high socks to start. These pieces are crucial to staying warm and comfortable. From there, I add on a skinny jean, a chunky knit or silky woven, flat boots, a neutral scarf and a tailored coat. The key to true San Francisco style is to dress for any occasion and weather – and also, be prepared to add to it or take it all off at anytime!

2. How do you style OTK boots for a casual daytime look?

OTK boots can definitely be a challenge to style, especially for a daytime look. For this trend, it is always best to stay on the safe side, which means tucking a skinny jean into an OTK boot or wearing a knee length skirt to offset the height of the OTK boot shaft. Keep your daytime OTK look conservative and you will be good to go!

3, If you could shop one person’s closet, who would it be and why?

I die for Sophia’s closet (@sophiaac)! From the classic Burberry trench to the white mini Pashli, she has got everything in stock that the “city chic” lady simply must have. Her style is timeless and classic with a side of sass (my specialty).

1. How do you cozy up to the OTK boots trend while staying warm?

In the winter, I’m all about layering. It’s just too cold outside and too warm inside to dress only for one temperature – no matter how short your commute in a cold car might be! I never knew I was missing out on over-the-knee boots until I finally got them. Their versatility makes them the ultimate layering piece. My default is skinny jeans or spandex and boots all winter long – why not cover up a little more leg for enhanced style AND added warmth?

2. Where do you look for style inspiration?

Instagram is so full of stylish individuals – bloggers and non-bloggers alike. It’s a great way to get a quick overview of someone’s style before trying to dig through a sea of blogs. IG also the added benefit of being an outlet for those who don’t blog but do share their style.

3. How are you refreshing your closet for the new year?

I recently read an awesome article that talked about “new” essential wardrobe items. We all know that every woman needs a pair of dark wash skinny jeans (even if you only wear them with boots, like I do), a basic black blazer and the always-classic trench. While these closet essentials are staples for a reason, there are a few simple swaps that can add a bit of flavor and personality to your closet.

While I kicked up my workwear collection with the addition of a leather pencil skirt, I like the idea of swapping out one of my basic silk button-down shirts with a loungewear-inspired (silk pajama) top or swapping out the tried-and-true ballet flat for a metallic oxford.
