Hi, Poshers!

In this OOTD, I’ve put together an outfit incorporating two of my favorite AW14 trends – gold, red and an absolute staple – leopard. Burgundy is one of my favorite colors to pair with gold. I know some of us are sick of this cold weather, but the fact remains – Winter is my favorite season of the year.

I am so excited to be guest blogging for Poshmark today, and I’m even more thrilled about hosting my first Posh Party tonight  – I hope you’ll join
me! Since New York Fashion Week AW14 shows just ended, I thought it would be the perfect time to talk about the top five trends on the AW14 runways:

Checker Print: Whether it’s plaid, gingham, tartan or windowpane, checker prints have been having quite the moment this Fall/Winter, and they are back for Round 2! I’ve worn my share of checker prints on my blog, and I can’t wait to rock more!

image

Fur: While fur has been a Fall/Winter staple, the AW14 runways were all
about fur in some awesome colors and furry accents.

image

Gold: Dying, you guys! Designers definitely went for gold for AW14, and
I’m not complaining – I love me some gold! Whether it’s a little or a lot,
don’t be afraid to rock gold!

image

Red: A bit of a surprise, huh? Bright reds to burgundies, NYFW was
definitely in the red zone!

image

White: Over the past couple years, designers have been consistently breaking the “No white after Labor Day” rule, and I couldn’t be
happier. I love white, and I’m not gonna stop wearing it … ever!

Are you excited for these trends? What is your favorite?

PoshFest Essentials with Kate of @wearinla

image

Blogger darling and power Posher Kate of Wear in La is not only writing a guest post on our blog today, but she’s also joining us at PoshFest as a panelist – sharing all her fashionable tips and tricks for marketing yourself in the virtual world. If you want to join Kate for PoshFest, get your tickets on Eventbrite!

Let’s find out what Kate’s bringing to Vegas:

From the minute I heard about the amazing idea of having a huge live Posh Party in Vegas, I have excitedly been asking myself (and all my Posh friends) the same question over and over again: “What in the world am I going to wear?!” I’m the kind of girl who packs too much, doesn’t get around to wearing nearly half of it and ends up having too much to even care! This time around, I’m planning my outfits ahead of time to minimize luggage and keep myself focused on having a great time and working hard!

In lieu of keeping things simple, I chose a color palette and plan to stick with it so that everything can be interchangeable (you can save so much room in your suitcase if you pick items that mix and match well). For PoshFest 2013, I’m sticking to the oh-so-trendy basics of black and white with a couple pops of color! A classic little black dress can get you through any situation – dinner, drinks, dancing, conference – you name it! Neutral nail polish, such as a nude or silver sparkles, will go with everything – it’s a good idea to consider your wardrobe color palette and choose a polish that meshes well.

Now let’s get down to business – your Posh closet that is! PoshFest is going to be the number one event this year where you can network, learn, and grow your business on Poshmark. Remember to bring your iPhone or iPad, perhaps a notepad, and of course your business cards! Lucky for you and me, Poshmark has offered 100 free custom cards to each attendee to get us jumpstarted! Click HERE to order yours!

Since PoshFest is a two-day event with workshops and panels going all day long, it’s important to have everything you need for the day with you in an easy-to-carry tote. In between speaking on the Marketing Panel, learning new strategies for networking and meeting new Posh friends, I will be fabulously toting around my iPad/iPhone with chargers, a little notebook (yea, I’m still a little old school like that!), business cards, extra pens, perhaps a pair of fold-up flats (you never know…sometimes heels can just be a little too much!) and some basic beauty touch-up products (i.e. lipstick, travel hairspray, bobby pins, and the like). I’m the kind of girl who comes prepared for anything – you just never want to be caught without when you’re in need!

In all my excitement for PoshFest, I have been sharing the Posh love like crazy, encouraging girls to keep on selling and earning towards the trip! I’ve even curated a “PoshFest Essentials” list in my own closet of items that are Vegas-worthy listings up to 20% off. It’s not too late to buy your PoshFest tickets – I so look forward to meeting each and every one of you!

I would love to hear how everyone else is prepping for PoshFest. Share your packing secrets and what you’re going to wear with us here and on Instagram (@poshmark & @wearinla)!

Let’s get this PoshParty started! Vegas, here we come!

Steal Her Style: Miley Cyrus VMA Outfit

image

Talented singer, Buzznet writer, and power Posher Jessica (can we say triple threat?) is taking over the Poshmark blog to share her own take on Miley’s VMA outfit and how you can get this rockstar look for less than $100! If you are absolutely loving Jessica’s style tips, check out her fashion picks tomorrow night as she hosts the Edgy & Boho Babe Posh Party!

Ready, set, style!

With over 45,000 tweets a MINUTE about Miley Cyrus, I find it only fitting to talk about her AMAZING style transformation. Miley’s controversial VMA outfit has been on the minds of many since the awards aired on August 25th.

Unfortunately, the majority of the public has decided this is not an acceptable outfit. So I decided to recreate a more wearable version of the “We Can’t Stop” star’s revealing nude outfit in a more conventional and practical way!

And honestly, her choice of shoes was AMAZING! Who doesn’t love flatform creepers?! Pair this with some red lipstick, and you can have the entire look for under $100:

Nude High Neck Crop Top: $10 Retail $30

Black Pleather Hot Shorts: $18 Retail $55

Black Studded Flatform Creepers: $25 Retail $49

Gold Heart Necklace: $4

Rock on, Poshers!

Guest Post: Photo Tips From Power Poshmarker, Simonett

Hi Poshmakers!

My name is Simonett and I’m the co-founder of Miami Style Mafia, a directory and guild for Miami’s top tier fashion creatives and influencers to connect and collaborate. The blog portion of MSM documents the latest characters, happenings, and settings in our city, and our store (coming soon!) will provide a selection of items reflecting the latest trends and innovation in design curated by yours truly!

Six months ago, I hosted a live Miami Posh Party, and since then, I’ve gained over 100,000 Poshmark followers, and I’ve been able to sell close to 400 items in my closet! Not only has this generated a new form of monetary income for me (woot, woot) but it has changed the way I shop, act, and even think!

After Poshmark, I allow myself to buy those expensive luxury pieces, wear it once, and then sell it to someone who will practically be getting a brand new dress for a fraction of the original cost AND I only paid the difference between what I bought and sold it for. This way, I’m always recycling my closet and have new stuff to wear all the time (very convenient when you are a blogger and have 2-5 events to host and attend on a weekly basis).

But enough on my success story and ardent love story with Poshmark. You’re here to learn how you can increase your sales and become just as successful at getting rid of all those items that haven’t seen the light of day.

Presentation is one of the (if not THE) most important factors in being successful at making sales. In this post, I’m going to tell you about a few tips and tricks that have helped me to sell up to 50 items in my Poshmark closet on a weekly basis.

Tip 1: Setting

image

As a seller, it’s important to keep in mind your own personal behavior as a buyer. Ask yourself this question: “Would you be more inclined to purchase an item displayed at a beautiful, well lit, clean environment or at an unpleasant, dark and messy space?” Odds are the answer to that question is the first option. If you are taking your photos at home, pick the area of your house that you are most proud of in terms of ambiance and design.

For me, this area is my living room. The white walls, furniture and floor to ceiling windows allow for natural lighting (which in my opinion is optimal) and contrast between the background and the items I am modeling.

image

Tip 2: Photo Variety

image

Always try to include as many photos of the item you are trying to sell as possible. Remember, she isn’t there to try the item on or see it for themselves in person, so the more photos you provide of the item will give the user a better idea of what the item really looks like.

I always try to include (1) a full front shot of the product on, (2) a full back shot of the product on, (3) a full front shot of the product flat and (4) a detail shot of the product flat. This way, the user has a good visual of item in several different angles and dimensions.

For the cover photo, I recommend always picking a shot of the item on. I take most of my cover photos by myself in the mirror. If you are not comfortable with trying the items on for the photo, then place the item on a mannequin. You can find very affordable plastic ones online that can conveniently hang on a wall or door for you to snap the photo.

The flat item photos look best when hung on a wall or laid on a flat surface (preferably white or a light color to contrast with the item).

Tip 3: Editing

image

I take most of my Poshmark listing photos on my iPhone. The camera on it is pretty amazing but sometimes the lighting and coloring of the photos can be less than great depending on the environment in which the photos were taken.

Considering the fact that I take my photos using natural lighting, if I take a photo past 4 PM – it sometimes may appear dark and with a greenish tone to it. For correcting these issues, I recommend using apps like Snapseed and Photoshop Express. These apps have tools that can modify the exposure and tonality of your iPhone photos.

I really hope that these tips result to be helpful for all of you here at the Poshmark community! If you want to see more examples of how I’ve put these techniques into practice in my listings, check out my closet at: poshmark.com/closet/_simonett
