Any tips for transitioning from fall to winter with ease?
Outerwear is key! Find great layering pieces for when the weather and occasion is unexpected.

You’ve had a ton of success on Poshmark (congrats!) what has been your favorite part?
It’s been great downsizing and exchanging pieces that I will likely no longer wear, for cash. It’s great that everyone is so nice and excited for their new pieces.

How To Dress Like a Fashion ‘It Girl’

Fall is a-comin’ and now is about the time when we get super inspired for all things fashion and style. September issues, New York Fashion Week and, of course, following our favorite style bloggers are just a few of our favorite things happening at the moment. Oh, and pumpkin spice lattes. Obviously.

We caught up with East Coast blogger babes and real life besties, Naty, of the wildly popular style blog A Love Affair with Fashion, and PR and social media pro Chevy. The two recently took on NYFW together — how fun does that sound? As hosts of tonight’s Back to Basics Posh Party, they are divulging all their secrets to living and styling that “it girl” life so effortlessly.

What’s one piece you don’t mind splurging on? I never mind splurging on a good handbag. I buy a new handbag every season to add to my collection. When you invest in a handbag they wear well and wind up being more of an investment than a splurge. Whenever I add a nice bag to my outfit, it instantly feels complete.

What advice would you give to women trying to evolve their own personal style? It’s definitely important to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing because your confidence will shine through. However, there is a delicate balance between feeling comfortable and simply staying within your comfort zone. I think there are times when it’s important to step out of your comfort zone and try new trends. You never know, you may just love the outcome!

Top three favorite brands, ready go! Zara, Forever 21 and Stella McCartney.

What fall fashion trends are you most looking forward to? Oh there are so many! My favorite part of every fall is breaking out my plaid shirts and fringe boots. I’m so excited fringe is such a trend this season. But I’m probably most looking forward to wearing white sneakers with everything. I’m tall so I don’t usually wear heels and it’s nice to be able to go to an event wearing sneakers while still feeling chic.

Best Poshmark purchase to date? After weeks of searching for the perfect handbag accessory, I purchased a cute little furry keychain that I clip to every one of my handbags! I love it and always receive a million compliments on it. It’s my favorite!

Where do you look for fashion inspiration? I take a majority of my inspiration from fashion blogs. Since I work in Public Relations, I am always on the hunt for great bloggers to work with…which means I’m scouring fashion blogs 24/7! It’s hard not to be inspired when you look at photos of fashionable women all day long.

#FromWhereIStand or flat lays? Definitely flat lays! I recently started following an account on Instagram (@flatlays) that completely inspires me! I’d like to say I’m good but it definitely takes a lot of practice…and great lighting!

What do each of you love about Naty’s style? I love that Naty can take a trendy piece and make it look timeless. Her style is clean and classic, with a twist! I love that if you looked at one of her looks five years from now you would still think, ”Wow, I want that outfit.” That takes talent!

What’s been your favorite part about Poshmark? My favorite part has been having the ability to share my style with others. It’s fun to know that my clothes are getting a new life in a new closet with a new owner! Not to mention that it helps make more room in my own closet for fresh pieces…because I am always shopping. Poshmark is such a great, supportive community. I’m so happy that I was introduced to it and have been able to connect with so many awesome girls!

What’s one piece you don’t mind splurging on? I’m more likely to splurge on any type of staple piece that I know I’ll be able to wear multiple times in different ways. Every now and again I might splurge on a pair of shoes or a bag if it’s something I’m really lusting over.

What advice would you give to women trying to evolve their own personal style? I think part of finding your own style is by experimenting a little. You want to be comfortable and confident, of course, but fashion is fun and such a great way to show off your personality. Don’t be afraid to try new things and venture outside of your comfort zone.

Top three favorite brands, ready go! It’s so hard to narrow it down!  I really love Zara, H&M and TopShop.

What fall fashion trends are you most looking forward to? Literally all of it. Fall fashion is my absolute favorite because you can get way more creative with your looks. Currently I’m obsessing over wide leg pants, long vests, lace-up flats and wide brim hats.

Best Poshmark purchase to date? A pink Rebecca Minkoff mini mab brand new with tags for about $50 less than retail. I seriously use it all the time. Best little tote. Also my leopard clutch from ClareV found it brand new as well. I am equally obsessed with both purchases.

Where do you look for fashion inspiration? I find inspiration everywhere, especially from street style and other bloggers. It’s really refreshing to see how many different ways one trend or one style can be worn. It definitely gives me an open mind to try out certain things and put my own personal spin on them.

#FromWhereIStand or flat lays? I absolutely love #flatlays. Some people are seriously so talented at doing them. I try but I am not that good lol so I tend to do more #fromwhereistand. It’s a great sneak of what you’re wearing.

What do each of you love about Chevy’s style? Chevy’s style is so different from mine and that’s what I love because we are able to help each other out from another style perspective. She’s great at mixing prints and definitely inspired me to do it more often. Her style is a bit more casual, but still bold. I joke around that she is always in flats and I am in heels.  We can look at the same piece of clothing and instantly know how we will wear it and it will be completely opposite from one another. She’s not afraid to play around with her style and I love that.

What’s been your favorite part about Poshmark? It’s just been a great fashion community. I’ve actually met some amazing people through it and I’m very grateful for that.

A Decade In Fashion: Alexander Wang Re-Releases Best Sellers

At 31 years old, fashion designer Alexander Wang has done more than many designers have in a lifetime. A graduate of Parsons, Wang debuted his first collection at age 21, which consisted of knitwear based on unisex silhouettes. Today he has transformed his vision into a multi-million dollar business and is one of the most recognized brands in the fashion industry. From collaborating with H&M to being the creative director of French fashion house Balenciaga, Wang has created a retrospective capsule collection for his accomplishment.

In celebration of his 10 years in the fashion industry, the brand had fans vote for their favorite pieces. This capsule consists of his 10 best sellers, known as the “Wang 10.” From Alexander Wang’s spring 2009 collection of bright pieces and a Miami-inspired show to the sexy fall 2009 collection of moto jackets and sheer bra cup dresses, this anniversary collection proves that Wang is sure to further ascend into fashion history.

Get the Look: 10 Years of Wang

What makes Alexander Wang’s fans obsessed with his collections are the wearable and diverse his designs and silhouettes.

The 10 items of the capsule collection are all black, which makes us love it even more. What else do we love? Low-waisted leather pants, the mesh dress with graphic embellishments and the athletic-inspired leather shorts.

If you can’t take home this collection at full retail, you can still find amazing pieces from this honored designer on Poshmark. How to style the looks? Pair the leather bottoms with a sleeveless top or with a cable-knit jumper, the mesh dress with heels, and the draped dress with sneakers and leather jacket on top, and you might just be mistaken for one of Wang’s models.

Guest Feature: 5 Tips for a Successful Closet Cleanout with Orchid Grey

It’s hard to believe that we’re already on the cusp of fall. I’ve had the September issues on my coffee table for a couple of weeks now, and while I’m being careful to not wish summer away, I can’t wait for the shift in style that a new season offers, especially autumn. Layers, boots, and plenty of texture — after a long, hot summer of one-piece dressing and sandals, fall makes the act of getting dressed feel fun again. If you’re like me and pack away your off-season clothes (a smart decision if you’re also dealing with a too-tiny closet), the cooling days of late August mean it’s almost time for the Great Closet Switchover. I’ll soon be rummaging through bins and boxes in search of the sweaters, jackets, flannels and boots I boxed up months ago, and making a list of the must-haves I hope to buy for the months ahead (suede miniskirt, anyone?). The transition into a new time of year isn’t just great for personal style though, it also happens to be the perfect time to plan a major closet cleanout.

Why clean out your closet from season to season? Besides allowing you the opportunity to take stock and see exactly what you already own making shopping for what’s to come more streamlined and intentional, detoxing your closet a few times per year lets you clearly steer your personal style in whichever direction you please. Think about it: if you haven’t worn a fit-and-flare in years, but your closet is full of them, there’s no room for the new silhouette or color that you love (not to mention, there’s likely someone out there who would be ecstatic to find those pieces for a steal on Poshmark!). Reselling your castoffs also ensures less landfill waste, and those extra bucks in your Poshmark account make it easy to refresh your own wardrobe with gently used pieces when the time comes. Not sure where to start? Check out my five tips below for executing a successful closet cleanout, and then share your own!

1. Plan Ahead

While a full wardrobe overhaul is tempting to just jump right into on a Saturday afternoon, I’d advise against it. I’ve made this mistake countless times and usually what I’m left with is a giant mess, flagging motivation and more disorganization than when I started. Plan a few days in advance to give yourself time to gather supplies, even better, pencil it in. Set aside a full morning or afternoon (whenever you feel most productive), more if your wardrobe is large and your intent is a major cleanout. Be honest with yourself, if you feel you need a full day, take it.

On the day-of, brew a fresh pot of coffee (or pour yourself a glass of wine if it’s after noon), grab some snacks, and crank your favorite Spotify station. This should feel like a party, not a chore!

2. Gather Supplies

If you’re still using plastic hangers, now is the time to upgrade. I prefer velvet slimline hangers, which are gentle on clothes while providing a non-slip grip and save you serious space (clutch if you’ve got a small closet). I also have a small arsenal of sturdy wooden hangers, which I use for heavier jackets and for displaying special items on the back of my closet door.

Along with upgrading your hanger situation, get your hands on three large bags (I love the blue bags from Ikea for this). You’ll need one for clothes to keep, one for clothes to sell, and one for donations.

If you’re not already packing away seasonal clothes, but want to start, grab a few large plastic or cardboard storage bins, some masking tape, a sharpie, and some cedar blocks (found in the closet section of most big box stores).

Make sure your full-length mirror is handy, and if you’re really in fall cleaning mode, you’ll want a vacuum or broom and duster close by, too.
