Spring is in full swing and for many this sparks the urge to freshen up and unload clutter in your life, especially in your closet! 1. It Doesn’t Fit You Right Now

Whether it’s too big, too small, or just not right for your body type, life is too short to hold onto clothes that you can’t wear. Try it on and if it’s just not the right size or cut, list it to your Poshmark closet.

2. It Doesn’t Suit Your Personal Style

Personal style is ever-evolving, so your favorite pumps from last year may be collecting a bit of dust now since you reinvented your style. If that boho top doesn’t quite fit your new ladylike vibe or it just simply doesn’t go with anything else in your closet, snap a covershot and list it!

3. You Wouldn’t Buy It Now

Take a good look at the item and ask yourself: If you saw this on the rack at your favorite store today, would you buy it? If the answer is no, it’s time for it to go to a new home!

4. It Brings Up Bad Memories

Everyone has a piece in their closet that they associate with a not-so-great moment or experience. Whether it’s a piece of jewelry from an ex or that dress you were wearing when you had your most embarrassing moment, make some room for good memories by parting ways with it.

5. You Never Actually Wear It

You know that item in your closet that you keep trying on, but never actually leave the house wearing? It’s a sign that it’s meant to be in your Poshmark closet. And if the tag is still on it after months of hanging in your closet, you should definitely make some room for something you’ll actually wear by selling it!

By thinking through these five points when spring cleaning your closet, we’re sure you find lots of new inventory for your Poshmark closet all the while making room to shop for new summer kicks and flirty frocks.

Posh Tip: How to Snag the Best Deals First

Scoring a good deal on Poshmark is all about finding it first. Read on for a handful of tips that can help you nab the next amazing Posh find for your wardrobe.

Find your Stylemate
First things first, find your stylemates on Poshmark. A stylemate is someone who wears the same sizes you do and shares a similar taste in style. There is no one simple way to instantly find your stylemate, but you can find a lot of great closets by searching for people who sell pieces from your favorite brands and designers. Following these users mean that when they list new items, you’ll see them in your feed on Poshmark, therefore the potential for seeing them before other users is greater.

Shop “First Look” Showrooms
The second and third party every day always has a showroom that is titled “First Look.” In case you’re not familiar with it, this showroom is a one-stop-shop for all items that have never been shared to a Posh Party before. While these items are not necessarily brand new to Poshmark, there is still a pretty good chance for you to unearth a killer deal by perusing this showroom.

Search Poshmark by Keyword
Are you on the hunt for a specific item or style? Try searching for the item name or using keywords to scour all closet listings. If you don’t find the item you’re looking for right away, don’t fret. Just check back regularly because you never know when your dream piece will be listed for sale. Additionally Poshmark automatically saves your most recent search history in the app so you can easily search again whenever you want!

Bartering With Care
Some Poshers are open to bartering their listed prices, but your success in doing so all depends on how you approach it. Many users are turned off by comments such as “Lowest?” or offers that are significantly lower than the listed prices. You’ll find better results by approaching users with full sentences and bargaining in terms of percentage. For instance, try figuring out what 15% off their listed price is and ask if they’d be willing accept that amount.

Seasonality of Shopping
There is a quite a bit of seasonality when it comes to shopping; you tend to buy swimsuits and sandals at the spring and coats, sweaters, and boots at the fall. In considering the law of supply and demand, the more in demand a particular kind of item is, the more expensive it’ll be. That means at the end of a season, those seasonal items will most likely be available at deeper discounts due to the decline in demand. Bonus tip: This is also something helpful to keep in mind when stocking your closet as a seller.

Recruit Your Friends
Get friends to help you shop! The more eyes looking for any particular order, the better. At PMHQ, we’ve all become familiar with one another’s sizes and styles so when we find something that’s perfect for them, we tag them to let them know. And don’t worry if your friends aren’t on Poshmark already because you can invite them! The best part is it’s an easy $5 bucks for you (plus $5 for each friend) if they use your referral code and make a purchse!

We hope that by using some or all of these tips will help you find you new go-to handbag, your dream shoes, or anything else your closet desires.

We often hear Poshers wondering how their listings can be chosen as a coveted Host Pick. Because Posh Parties are hosted by different users every day, it’s hard to say there is an exact formula that will guarantee your item will be shared by a party co-host. However, we do know there are a few things that come in to play.

Read on to see four ways to better your chances of getting that Host Pick email notification:

Know Poshmark’s Policies

Party hosts are asked to only share items that meet Poshmark’s selling guidelines and from closets who follow Poshmark’s policies. To nab a spot in the Host Pick showroom, read up on the rules by checking out the Posh Guide and committing the Community Guidelines to memory.

Posh Tip: How We Price Our Items

One question we get a lot at PMHQ is how to choose the best price for your listings on Poshmark. We know each Posher has her own strategy for making the most money while giving the best deal to their customers. Read on to see how PM team members decide on a selling price!

image

  • Original price is important because I want to be able to give buyers a great deal. An item is not as enticing if they can buy it at their local mall for about the same price.
  • The condition of the item plays a huge part as well. Signs of wear: stains, holes, pilling, fading color, etc. means I’ll generally offer heavy discounts. Who will want to buy it if they can pay a few extra dollars for it brand-new somewhere else?
  • Lastly, I think of demand: Is it sold out in stores? A popular designer? A must have this season? I like to offer at least 30-40% off retail price on my items, and even more if it is a style or brand that is mass produced and can be found anywhere.

image

  • Market price: I do a quick search to see what price comparable items are actually selling for (not the same as what they are listed at – it’s only a true market price if it has sold).
  • Willingness to pay: How much would I be willing to pay for the same item in the same condition?  If I wouldn’t pay $75 for a gently-used non-designer sweater, I can’t expect someone else to.
  • Brand popularity: From personal experience, fashionable mass-market brands like J.Crew and Zara sell well and quickly, which translates to how much I can price it.  Some of my favorite brands are more niche and less often searched, which may require me to price at a higher discount.
  • Current vs. dated: I might be able to get more for a gently used item that is still in style, compared to a NWT branded item from several years ago.

  • I do a quick search for the item on Poshmark to see how others have chose to price similar items. This step ensures that my price is fair and reasonable.
  • Understanding that the Poshmark community loves a good bargain, I leave a little wiggle room of about $5-10 in order to be able to negotiate my price lower. Keep in mind that everyone loves a steal—so when possible, I price my items on the cheaper side so that they’ll sell fast to make room for that new pair of Karen Walker sunnies or those Valentino Rockstuds that I’ve been eyeing in other Poshers’ closets!”

Now it’s your turn! We want to hear how you select a selling price in your closet. Leave a comments with your best pricing strategy tip.

There are a couple of ways to land on the “Find People” page:
1. You can tap on the tab in the lower right hand corner marked with your username—this is your personal account page.

2. Otherwise you can select the upper left hand corner button of your Feed tab. Simple! Now you have several ways to access new closets at your fingertips.

Use the “Find Friends” tabs to search for existing friendships you already have with people in your Contacts list, on Facebook and also on Twitter. Use the suggestions section to find users recommended especially for you based on factors like size and style.

Lastly, don’t be shy about using the search toolbar to look for someone by their username or their first or last name if you know it. Fun little tip: The search bar will save your last 100 searches. Handy!
