How To Dress Like a Fashion ‘It Girl’

Fall is a-comin’ and now is about the time when we get super inspired for all things fashion and style. September issues, New York Fashion Week and, of course, following our favorite style bloggers are just a few of our favorite things happening at the moment. Oh, and pumpkin spice lattes. Obviously.

We caught up with East Coast blogger babes and real life besties, Naty, of the wildly popular style blog A Love Affair with Fashion, and PR and social media pro Chevy. The two recently took on NYFW together — how fun does that sound? As hosts of tonight’s Back to Basics Posh Party, they are divulging all their secrets to living and styling that “it girl” life so effortlessly.

What’s one piece you don’t mind splurging on? I never mind splurging on a good handbag. I buy a new handbag every season to add to my collection. When you invest in a handbag they wear well and wind up being more of an investment than a splurge. Whenever I add a nice bag to my outfit, it instantly feels complete.

What advice would you give to women trying to evolve their own personal style? It’s definitely important to feel comfortable in what you’re wearing because your confidence will shine through. However, there is a delicate balance between feeling comfortable and simply staying within your comfort zone. I think there are times when it’s important to step out of your comfort zone and try new trends. You never know, you may just love the outcome!

Top three favorite brands, ready go! Zara, Forever 21 and Stella McCartney.

What fall fashion trends are you most looking forward to? Oh there are so many! My favorite part of every fall is breaking out my plaid shirts and fringe boots. I’m so excited fringe is such a trend this season. But I’m probably most looking forward to wearing white sneakers with everything. I’m tall so I don’t usually wear heels and it’s nice to be able to go to an event wearing sneakers while still feeling chic.

Best Poshmark purchase to date? After weeks of searching for the perfect handbag accessory, I purchased a cute little furry keychain that I clip to every one of my handbags! I love it and always receive a million compliments on it. It’s my favorite!

Where do you look for fashion inspiration? I take a majority of my inspiration from fashion blogs. Since I work in Public Relations, I am always on the hunt for great bloggers to work with…which means I’m scouring fashion blogs 24/7! It’s hard not to be inspired when you look at photos of fashionable women all day long.

#FromWhereIStand or flat lays? Definitely flat lays! I recently started following an account on Instagram (@flatlays) that completely inspires me! I’d like to say I’m good but it definitely takes a lot of practice…and great lighting!

What do each of you love about Naty’s style? I love that Naty can take a trendy piece and make it look timeless. Her style is clean and classic, with a twist! I love that if you looked at one of her looks five years from now you would still think, ”Wow, I want that outfit.” That takes talent!

What’s been your favorite part about Poshmark? My favorite part has been having the ability to share my style with others. It’s fun to know that my clothes are getting a new life in a new closet with a new owner! Not to mention that it helps make more room in my own closet for fresh pieces…because I am always shopping. Poshmark is such a great, supportive community. I’m so happy that I was introduced to it and have been able to connect with so many awesome girls!

What’s one piece you don’t mind splurging on? I’m more likely to splurge on any type of staple piece that I know I’ll be able to wear multiple times in different ways. Every now and again I might splurge on a pair of shoes or a bag if it’s something I’m really lusting over.

What advice would you give to women trying to evolve their own personal style? I think part of finding your own style is by experimenting a little. You want to be comfortable and confident, of course, but fashion is fun and such a great way to show off your personality. Don’t be afraid to try new things and venture outside of your comfort zone.

Top three favorite brands, ready go! It’s so hard to narrow it down!  I really love Zara, H&M and TopShop.

What fall fashion trends are you most looking forward to? Literally all of it. Fall fashion is my absolute favorite because you can get way more creative with your looks. Currently I’m obsessing over wide leg pants, long vests, lace-up flats and wide brim hats.

Best Poshmark purchase to date? A pink Rebecca Minkoff mini mab brand new with tags for about $50 less than retail. I seriously use it all the time. Best little tote. Also my leopard clutch from ClareV found it brand new as well. I am equally obsessed with both purchases.

Where do you look for fashion inspiration? I find inspiration everywhere, especially from street style and other bloggers. It’s really refreshing to see how many different ways one trend or one style can be worn. It definitely gives me an open mind to try out certain things and put my own personal spin on them.

#FromWhereIStand or flat lays? I absolutely love #flatlays. Some people are seriously so talented at doing them. I try but I am not that good lol so I tend to do more #fromwhereistand. It’s a great sneak of what you’re wearing.

What do each of you love about Chevy’s style? Chevy’s style is so different from mine and that’s what I love because we are able to help each other out from another style perspective. She’s great at mixing prints and definitely inspired me to do it more often. Her style is a bit more casual, but still bold. I joke around that she is always in flats and I am in heels.  We can look at the same piece of clothing and instantly know how we will wear it and it will be completely opposite from one another. She’s not afraid to play around with her style and I love that.

What’s been your favorite part about Poshmark? It’s just been a great fashion community. I’ve actually met some amazing people through it and I’m very grateful for that.
